Best Christmas Job?

Hi, I've recently quit my job and am looking for a job to tide me over for Christmas until I get back to 'proper work' in IT next year.

So, what I'd like to ask everyone on MSE is....

What is the best job to do over Christmas for money, fringe benefits and (heaven help me), fun?

Bar work. The atmosphere at Christmas time was great. All those parties I was invited to after the pub closed was fantastic, free drinks an' all. :beer:

A word of advise, if you're looking for retail work most of them would of finished recruiting by now.

I'd say go for the bar work if you can get it.

BAR WORK is where you'll have the most fun, if you don't mind working till the early hours of the morning.

If you want something that will tide you over my friend has just started working for Betterware posting & collecting their catalogues, I tried to talk her out of it because I thought she would have to pay a joining fee or for the catalogues not the case there free, she's doing it full time at the moment well I say full time she does about 4hours during the day whilst the kids are at school then goes back out for an hour in the evening when hubby comes home, she earned £200 last week for doing 30 hours work, it's selfemployed work so it's technically cash in hand till she finds an accountant or works out how to declare it. She's loving it, might not be for you - but she loves the outdoors.

I worked at QVC the other christmas, it was mad busy but good fun, great set of people, and you got a discount on stuff they sell. Although not much use to you unless your near the Knowsley phone centre. But they paid ok and I had a good time.

You could always go to one of the shopping centres near you and apply to be one of SANTAS LITTLE HELPERS !!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

lol dont joke! they had santas grotto workers advertised on the job centre website a few weeks ago lol

id go with waitress / bar work ,all those work parties etc ,you will get loads of tips

Thanks for the advice so far folks...

The problem is what if you are none too steady with your hands (I envisage lots of spilt pints and black eyes - mine), then bar work is out?

Any other ideas?

Try the Post Office, reasonable rates of pay, nice people, indoors or outdoors depending on what you want to do and usually subsidised canteens so cheap food as well

or
If you can manage bar work/ waiting on tables the tips are great at Christmas and New year sometimes more than the wages.

Retail? Best? It's most certainly the worst!

I'd second the pub suggestion for atmosphere, or waiting on tables for tips. Post office is also a good one, unless you get stuck on sorting which is mind numbing and decidedly tedious.

most retailers have a length of service period before the offer discount - usually min 3 months. if you manage to get a retail job expect the worst shifts over xmas (for new staff)
