Am I looking for the impossible work from home job?

Hi

My daughter will be starting School full time in September and really want to work from home so that I can be around to take her to and from school and have the holidays with her. At the moment I am doing online mystery shops, taste radar and surveys, have also done texting in the past.

Once my daughter is at school I will have more time and would like to put it to good use, I have been looking into arise, 360crm, Sensee and Maygenta but from what I can see a lot of them require you to work over the school pick up times and also would end up working through the school holidays.

Really hoping that someone can suggest any other similar sites that might be more flexible or am I really looking for the impossible? I have applied for Lionbridge so waiting to hear back from them.

You can get paid for trying new products it is really popular and I find it good, or if you're free during the day while your child is at school you could probably partake in paid focus groups...

I have signed up to quite a few as they may not be that regular but they do pay much better than paid surveys. Though one survey site I like is PanelOpinion UK as you can earn money quicky and cash out!

Maybe you have something crafty you could make and sell from home too? Just an idea! these types of sites are good for that: http://www.mumsmakingmoney.net/

Well, I hope these few sites help! Who do u use to mystry shop? Im interested in that job!
 2014: £20 voucher from SurveyFriends, £10 cash payout from Panel Opinion too and working towards more from Valued Opinions currently.
2013: £35 and £50 vouchers from SurveyFriends! More than £15 made from other paid surveys sites (Yougov, Panel Opinion, Valued Opinions, Pinecone, etc.) Happy so far!

I was in your boat 2 years ago and ended up applying for jobs in schools. Any job in a school be it a playground supervisor, cook or even a teaching assistant or admin role will have you generally working term time only and school hours.
I was very lucky with the hours being 9.30-2.30 and all the holidays working in with my kids.

I am now working from home on my own, I approached local self employed businesses such as gardeners, builders etc and offered my admin services. It took a while but I am now employed by a chap who runs a busy business and I do all his admin, invoices, book keeping, banking and office duties, most of it I do at my home, i just drive to him to collect it all and sort it and then drop it back filed and recorded and sorted at end of week. It works great with my youngest one being at home as I can take her with me to work and do other bits in the evening.

Perhaps draft a letter and outline the services you think you could provide? With end of year tax times approaching lots of businesses will be looking to have someone organise there paperwork/reciepts and accounts so if you have any knowledge of this, seize the moment.

This is exactly how I set up doing freelance telesales a few years back! Then off the back of each new customer comes referrals, to the point you no longer have to look for work :D It just requires some "outside the box" thinking as so many people are caught up in the idea that 9-5 office jobs are the norm. As well as going direct to businesses/ freelancers, you can join and use peopleperhour.com, elancer.com, and scour gumtree for job postings. Good luck :D

No it is not at all impossible, you just have to be prepared to try all sorts. I work at the local playgroup, I tutor someone who is home schooled -so I can fit it in with school hours. I also run a small business doing historical research (I was an archivist), so I sometimes run evening classes in family history and teach online. I've also nearly finished life coach training!

Thank you very much for all your ideas, will look into them :)
  • If you have kiddies, how about buying toys/kids clothes wholesale and selling them online or off? I have seen countless bored sprogs being dragged round car boot sales and I am sure a pocket money toys stall would make a killing!

I could point you in the direction of some info/suppliers but there is a certain website (not sure if I am allowed to mention it here) which deals with wholesale and reselling. They have an active forum with lots of helpful members.

You should pick up some pointers and ideas/inspiration. I know at least two of the members are full time mums and run successful home based businesses as well.

Hi thank you for that, I did give selling children's toys via ebay a go but was just not making money with it, there seems to be so much competition that I was having to sell at silly prices. It was a shame as its something that I really wanted to give a go.

Im not sure about Maygenta if they do a credit check or not, I think the training is a lot shorter than arise though. I havent heard back from Lionbridge so not looking hopeful.
