Help With Getting A Reciept of Payment!

Options
Hi all,

I had a debt with NPower who inturn passed it on to BCW who inturn got a lump sum payment from me and a reciept number i requested a letter from BCW saying that the debt has been payed and no more action will be taken blah blah...anyway they told me that by law they cannot send me a reciept and therefore i should contact NPower for one. So i contacted NPower and they said that the deebt is with BCW and they have nothing to do with it. So i contacted BCW again and the women over the phone said she will contact her manager who will think about send me a reciept of final payment. So i told her that i know my rights then she told be that by law i can request one but it will cost me £45. Also when i payed the debt in full they charged me £2 becuase i was using a Visa Debt Card and all other cards are free of charge.

Any Help Would Be Greatfull.

Rob

I wouldn't bother trying to have a sensible conversation with BCW by phone. I would write to them, set out the details and dates and ask them to confirm receipt of your payment by return of post.

If that still fails then obviously don't pay them £45! As an absolute max you could do a subject access request for £10 which should show your account is clear, but you shouldn't need to do even that.

Was the lump sum you paid the actual balance or did they give you a reduction? if its the latter that may be why they are being difficult with regards to sending this out. For future reference its always advised to get any such full & final offer from them in writing first before you make a payment.
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • Thanx for your quick reply, The payment was the full and final balance and they was no discount involved and no reduced payement was agreed. I just payed the money i owed and expected a reciept in the post regarding this. I know its only a piece of paper stating my account is now cleared and no further action will be taken against me (although the debt was £19.04p).

I'm in the same situation - had a small debt with e-on that was then passed to BCW. I paid a settlement figure online (80% of the debt.) I have written to them to ask for written confirmation that the debt is settled and will be marked as such on my credit file but have had no reply. I have kept screen grabs etc of every point of the process and am wondering if this is sufficient.
  • Hi lauzt1987,

I paid over the phone and was charged £2 they seemed very nice and helpfull when i was giving them my card details but when it comes to getting something from them i only got a reciept number....which in my eyes doesnt say much apart from how much you paid and when you paid. I'm thinking on contacting the Financial Ombudsman but i'm unsure if they will take on my case after it's only a reciept lol But that reciept does mean they cannot bother you anymore.

I definitely would do that - doesn't matter that it's only a receipt, it's the principle of it. Thanks for sharing your experience.
