Can anyone give me some advice on the best place to get either a low interest loan or o% balance credit card?
Background is 1 default dropped off last month:j 3 cc's total combined limits £3850 with 67% being used all high interest cards i want to clear (silly i know carrying balances on these cards, but i have now seen the light!). Had 2 of these cards 2years + and 1 only 4/5 months. 2 mobile phone contracts mine and hubby's, o/d £250 rarely go in to this though. Bank with Santander, not missed or paid late any payments on cc's, mobiles etc.... My income is £20,000 Hubby's £22,000
Have taken hubby off joint bank account as he is a discharged bankrupt ( he started a business which didn't work out but incurred lots of debts) discharged in April 2008. There is one debt left from the bankruptcy period which wasn't included in the bankruptcy as his dad took out this loan for him, i would like to pay the remainder of this loan and my cc's i if managed to get a loan approx £5000 in total, then only have the 1 debt:T.
Can anyone suggest what more can i do to improve my rating? Who/Where is the best place to apply? and lastly what you think my chances are?
Many thanks in:) advance

Have you checked on your credit files that you are husband are no longer shown as financially associated?
Just taking him off an account is rarely enough - you usually need to file a notice of disassocation at all 3 credit reference agencies. I would check this first before you apply for anything.

After that has been done then if you no longer have any late payments or defaults showing on your credit file and only have the 3 ccs and overdraft then I would think there is a reasonable chance of you being accepted for a loan of £5k based on your income alone. Usually its recommended that you try your own bank first. Or you could look at the best buy info on the main MSE site.

What APRS are you paying on your CC currently? if these are high APRs then you might get a loan with a lower APR, but if they are fairly good APRs, or if any are on promo deals it might not work out cheaper to get a loan.
