These are the ones I actually bought which are great for any length leg (my friend and I both bought a pair and she's 5 inches shorter than me! She just folded them over at the bottom. They are SO comfy and would look great dressed up with heels or dressed down with gladiator sandals

In terms of shoes, id wear them with pumps through the day with a basic or embellished vest top. I bought a nice vest top in the sale instore today which is baggy and has a nice crochet embelishment around the neckline (they dont seem to have it online). Something like that would look nice, just make sure it's tucked in! And again I think they would be nice dressed up at night with killer heels and a shirt.
Id say it's worth nipping down to your local topshop and trying a few pairs on as some things look great on one person but might not be suitable for another. Particularly trousers! They had loads of choice in my local store
