Hi
Sorry i am new to this so dont know if i have posted this in the right place.
Back in August 2008 i received a letter from Equidebt stating that an admin error had been made and a default had been issued to me incorrectly, they said this this would also not affect my credit file.
I have now received a letter this morning from Equidebt stating that they are chasing me for the monies i owe them.
I have checked the 2 letters and the reference numbers are the same along with the outstanding balance.
What should i do about this
Thank you

We could use a little more information please. Does it say when the debt is supposed to be from? Or who it's supposed to be from originally (eg. Barclaycard, Vodaphone)? What is the amount chased?I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

Hi
The debt is for £1687.54 and is originally from the RBS.
The debt is from back from November 2005
Hope this helps0 -
Which nation are you in (England, Scotland, Wales, NI) and do you recognise the debt- is it yours?I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.

You do recognise the debt. I'm not sure though if you mean you think you had a CC and paid it, or you know you didn't pay it but you don't think there should be a default. A default is just a standard mark to say you missed a payment, so if you have missed a payment ever then the default has been fairly applied and it'll be staying there. It could be that a default registered in 2008 was in error and was removed but that you have missed another payment since then. Have you missed any?
I think now would be an excellent time to check all 3 of your credit files and see exactly what is recorded on them. You only need the £2 statutory reports, you don't need this "credit score" tosh- that's never seen by a lender, the credit ref. agencies more or less make it up as they go along. To get your files visit equifax.co.uk, experian.co.uk and callcredit.co.ukI refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
