change of tax code

hiya just wondered if anyone could clear somthing up for me im cabin crew & have been on the common tax code 647l or whatever it is & have just received a letter saying i shall now be on tax code BR & will be paying 20% is that a good thing or a bad thing ?

    It's a (very) bad thing. As that is the Code more normally reserved for 2nd jobs. And charges 20% on everything - no personal allowance giving you a tax free portion of income. Does that (2nd job) fit? And is this for 2011-12?
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    oh god no its not a 2nd job its my only job & i only work 8 months of the year ! How can they possibly work that out ?

    The P2 (Coding Notice) should give you a clue???? Also how to deal with any obvious error?
