Royal mail pension

Hi,
I took my pension from Royal mail in January 2009 after being told that once you reach 50 you can get your pension from Royal mail.No problem there, they paid out a lump sum and a monthly pension.
I have just received a letter from Royal mail pension plan informing me that the lump sum I received is "subject to HMRC limits with a tax charge being applied if these limits are exceeded" then they gone on to say my lump sum exceeded the limits and " the calculation used to determine the amount of tax free lump sum payable contained an error". Royal mail now want me to pay back the overpayment (nearly £2000 ) in 14 days. As this was their error can they force me to pay it back?. Has anyone else been contacted by Royal mail pensions? Any info on this please.

I dare say that they can expect to get it back - however demanding 2 grand within 14 days is somewhat unreasonable.
I would suggest you try to negotiate repayment in instalments - ones that you can afford bearing in mind that it'll be coming out of your pension, not ones that they want.0 -
if you retired in 2009,what was the resolution with your colleague shares from 2007?0
