i want to be a moneysaver and try and purchase a bed, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine, iron, kettle, toaster and possibly sofas for under £1000.

i want good quality but low price and i am sure that is possible even if i get one thing at a time. the only thing is i don't know what to get as this is the first time for me and specs confuse me. anyone up for a challenge?

You're not clear - are you saying you want to buy all those items for the sum of £100, or for under £100 each? The microwave, iron, kettle and toaster are small items and it'll be very easy to get those together cheap, probably for £60 to £70 - look in any Asda, Tesco or Argos. As for the rest, they'll all be much more than £100 each. You're best bet is either to buy second hand (look on eBay), or even get for free - look on Freegle. Note however things like second hand washing machines and fridges will be a false economy, chances are they'll be near end of life hence being sold.

Your flat rate aim of £100 is unrealistic though. A double bed + mattress is probably more likely £125 minimum, small fridge freezer £200 (undercounter fridge with freezer compartment perhaps £120ish), washing machine minimum £200 and a double sofa £250. Also bare in mind, if you buy cheap, you get cheap - the sofa and bed will be uncomfortable, and the appliance won't last much longer than their warranties, the washing machine will have a naff spin speed and everything will come out sopping wet. Get on Argos, sort by price and see what there is in each category.

What I would suggest is look on your local Freecycle. You would probably get a fridge/freezer on there, and possibly sofas and maybe even a bed. This would release your money to pay for the other things. Everything else you can get dead cheap if you look round your local large supermarket, or possibly somewhere like Argos. You can get washing machines for around the £200 mark, not saying they will last but you might get a good one.

When we set up home (which I am guessing you are doing) we started with everything second hand, then gradually saved up and replaced things as they went.

You could also look to buy a sofa from a local charity shop.

We picked up a sofa for £35 when we first moved out, buy a throw to cover anything unsightly(!) and you've got a bargain!
Thank you to all the compers!

When the OH and I started out, we got most things second hand. The washing machine was a fairly new one for £50 from loot and still going strong 3 years later. Our kettle and toaster were £12 each in asda, really nice brushed chrome ones. Most of our furniture is ebay or gumtree all for an absolute bargain! I'd imagine if you look around and don't need everything now then you'll have a lot of change from you budget :)

I agree with the previous posters, Freecycle is fab, there are often sofas, beds and appliances on there - if you sign up you can set it up so that you receive emails with the recent posts.

If you want to get new appliances Laskys are a good company who I have always found to be good value for money, they often have discount vouchers (look on the codes board on here) and it's also worth calling them to ask for a cheeky extra discount, especially if you're ordering more than one appliance - I spoke to them on the phone and got free delivery on a Sunday, obviously they don't have to do this but if you ask nicely & the SA is in a good mood you might get an extra discount http://www.laskys.com/
