Still waiting for mortgage

Well, despite our complicated situation re moving jobs and finding out the house has been underpinned, etc, we finally got a phonecall from the Nationwide last Tuesday saying that they were satisfied with our application, and it was being passed on to 'Offers' and we should be getting something in the post
So we waited. And waited.
This Mon, OH rang them because we still hadn't received anything. They said that last Wednesday, they decided to ask for an amended valuation report from the surveyor just to confirm that the house won't be falling down. (So what was the phonecall last Tuesday for???) And they were expecting it that very day, so we should be getting something in the post...
Today OH rang again. And they are still apparently waiting for the amended valuation report. This time there is no expected day to receive this thing, but we should still be looking out for something in the post...
In the meantime, the vendors must be thinking we are playing silly !!!!!!s with them. I'm seriously wondering if we should give up on this house, or at least on the Nationwide.

they are only protecting themselves and checking that the property wont fall down on you and your family.
the vendor must be aware of this problem and is lucky you still want to buy so hope you are getting at a great price0 -

Oh yes, I understand about that.
My annoyance is that, (according to them) they haven't heard back from the surveyor for a week and it was clear from the phone conversation that they had had no inkling of chasing it up or telling us so that we could have chased it up ourselves. So if we had been more trusting and not bugged them every couple of days, we'd still be sitting here like lemons watching the post.
Now that we know what the apparent delay is, we are going to phone the surveyor ourselves and hopefully push things along.0
