P800 to old address?

in Cutting tax
My husband received a cheque from HMRC with a tax refund just over a month ago, followed a few days later by the relevant P800s. This prompted me to thinking about my own tax and that I've not heard anything from HMRC for the past 5 years (at least!). I'd not updated my personal details with them at all: I thought that it was all done automatically from work via my NI number/PAYE. Turns out I was totally wrong about this
so I called them to sort it all out but as I couldn't pass the security questions I had to write to them. They have obviously received my letter and updated my details as I received a PAYE coding notice this morning so I'm all up to date now :T
So now I finally get to my question! Due to the reason for the refund and the fact I work for the same company as hubby there's a fair chance I may also be due a tax refund but would HMRC have sent my letter and P800 to an old address or given that I have have just changed my address would they re-send to my correct address? To be honest I'm not bothered whether I actually get a refund or whether I owe them anything...I just want everything sorted out so I know where I stand
I have tried calling them a few times to ask but I've not managed to get through to anyone yet and I wondered if anyone happens to know HMRC's standard procedure in such cases or has been in this situation recently?

I doubt that HMRC would resend a P800 (if they sent one to a previous address).
It would be much better for you to do your own calculations based on your P60s for the past three tax years 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 and check for yourself if you have been on the correct tax code and if you have paid the correct amount of tax.
Then, if you find that the tax paid was wrong, you could be proactive and inform HMRC where the error occured and ask them to investigate for you.
All the info you need is available from this forum, from the HMRC website and from the figures you should have on your P60sThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks for the advice...I did try doing that but I don't appear to have all the info the HMRC website asks for (and to be honest I do find tax rather confusing!). But the issue has now resolved itself: though I never managed to get through to talk to someone, I did receive P800s for 08/09 and 09/10 in the post yesterday morning....plus a cheque with a refund of £200 :-D0
