Morgages for temping staff

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice of if it is possible to get a mortgage while on a temp contract.

I am currently temping. My employer is insistent that I will be taken on, on a permanent basis but needs a sign off from our parent company in the states. who knows how long this will take.?!?! people have waited up to a year. I've been here 4 months already

Basically I have seen a property for 118k (part buy part rent) my partner is in full time work and we have a deposit of around 10k. we are also first time buyers

As far as I know we both have a sound credit rating and would qualify for a mortgage if I was in permanent employment!!

Any advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

  • You'd likely need 3-6 months of permanent employment, beyond being given a contract, so don't focus on what you can't have. Move on, keep the deposit building up, double-check your credit history, and be as ready as you can be.
Act in haste, repent at leisure.

You'll need more than a £10k deposit to get a decent £108k mortgage, and you won't get any mortgage at all with a 4 month temp employment history. Might not be what you want to hear, but you need to wait till you have a proper job and some money before you think about buying a house.

And avoid those 'part buy part rent' shared ownership schemes, they are all scams.
