Fuel tax relief p87

Hello, I'm a carer. I go into people's homes. My employer does not give money for fuel, only wear and tear. I have done 2,724 miles. Does this mean I will receive £1089,60? I have received 190 for wear and tear.

It seems to good to be true, and I don't want to fill the form in wrong.

p.s I have mileage records

Thanks

Sorry, no, you don't 'receive £1089.60 - BUT you do get TAX RELIEF on that amount less the £190 your employer paid to you (assuming it didn't get taxed as part of your normal pay) - so tax relief on net 899.60.

Assuming you pay tax at the basic rate - 20% - the refund will be £179..92.

Not as much as you had hoped but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! :)

    Regards.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but did they say when the rise to 45p will take affect?

Will it apply to a tax return for the 2010/11 year?

  • I think what ever they have given you is enough because something is better than nothing. But you should get the tax relief on the money you get.

Thank you for that, it makes absolutely no sense.

Good luck getting your post count up.
