My point was that historically natural selection tended to favour the strongest and most successful genes. But lately in the UK a rather skewed benefits system etc has tended to increase breeding amongst the least capable members of society.

You've never needed housing benefit to breed and never will. There are economic and cultural impacts in encouraging the least able to buy houses and have children but genetic changes - absolutely no way.

It's simply impossible to link recent increases in benefits with any degradation of the gene pool. 30 years is nothing, ten thousand years not even the blink of an eye.

Harriet Harman is now on BBC news.

She says labour want to see a reduction in VAT on fuel rather than a 1p reduction as this does nothing.

She was reminded that these duty increases were in the labour plans, so harriet commented again that they want VAT reduced on fuel.

Presenter then stated that it would take 6 years and they can't do it now as it's illegal. Harriet says "no, they put VAT up, they are using the legal argument as nothing more than a smokescreen".

I cannot believe labour STILL insist on parading this reduction in VAT on fuel....to then state, live, on national TV that as the tories put it up, they can reduce it again (talking about fuel only remember) and call it a smokescreen is desperation and pure lies I have never seen on TV before. It's an outright blatent lie, and there she is stating it on nation TV to try and smear the opposition!!!

Quite wrong. You may want to consider the rapid natural selection of the varied breeds of dog. It doesnt take many generations to breed a trait, and with darling little chav tramps getting up the duff before the age of 14 in many areas, I dare say the welfare state is rapidly diluting the success out of our once fine nation rather rapidly.

You might want to consider what happened to the US crime rate after the Roe Vs Wade courtcase was concluded in the USA.

At least all that was decided (including relaxing planning approval) has meant that more houses should be built, and this should help house prices to fall.
I am not a financial expert, and the post above is merely my opinion.:j

But 1p off a litre of petrol is laughable - not going to have much impact on shop prices, is it?

Would you rather them chop 50p off a litre?

Maybe then they could increase your income tax by 20% to compensate?

I'd rather they chop 50p off a litre and then chop the public sector to compensate.

Don't often agree with you GD but in this case it worries me that Labour focus groups have obviously shown the average voter is so gullible that they will fall for this line.

Do a bit more research, I think that freakonomics analysis has now been found to be incomplete and no causation has been proved.

I think you will find that is 1p per litre off plus a planned 4p per litre planned rise not added on so actually 5p / litre less tax by October than would have been the case - works out at more than 2.5% VAT as well.

Would be good if APT actually changed to reflect carbon footprint (which was allegedly why it was introduced although of course actually in a cack-handed way by Clown) - currently I believe you pay more to fly 8 hours to the Caribbean on a full plane than 11 hours to LA on a half empty one.
Air passenger duty. Consulting today to improve arbitrary bands, going to bring Private Jets into equation, freeze in rise until next year.

No increase this year beyond already announced for strongest beer, etc. Tobacco rates as previously, inflation plus 2%. Change difference between cigarettes and hand rolled.

Mileage rate allowances up, all other duty rises as planned previously.

Fuel duty. -- Fair fuel stabiliser to be introduced.

Fuel Duty Escalator to be scrapped, paid for by increased tax on north sea production, but can be reintroduced if crude prices fall below $75 per barrel, at which point tax on crude to be reduced instead.

    No duty rise this year.

Duty cut by 1p per litre from tonight.
    I think....
