My Little Wrapper

I have just be browsing around the net seeing what oppourtunites are out there and came across this?

From the site :

"Here’s how it works: pretty much everyone loves chocolate…but there’s one market that is virtually untapped in the UK. One area that the ‘big boys’ can’t get into…but which you can:

I mean, really personalised. With wrappers that are designed with a real ‘WOW’ factor.

You print and wrap the chocolate bars, and also get to do a bit of sales and marketing to ‘unwrap’ your customers"

Has anyone set anything like this up? And how are they getting on?

Funny, i was looking at that one yesterday. I did a google around and the consensus was that you were being tied in to buying only their chocolate bars, and that the equipment / knowhow to do it with regular chocolate bars (ie, the printer, the software, etc) was available for much less and you would be much less constrained.
  • Isn't it illegal to sell regular chocolate bars re wrapped though?

I think some sort of overwrapping was being suggested.

Plus i think someone pointed out that just to break even you had to sell something like 4000 bars of chocolate just to get your franchise fee back.

My neighbour does it but doesn't make much from it. The chocolate is very cheap stuff but is very overpriced for what it is - I wouldn't pay extra just because the wrapper is personalised - it is the wrapper that goes in the bin!

Hard to make a real business from this, it's a product very easily available, and usually from suppliers that do a whole range of personalised goodies for you to choose from. I would say it's unusual for someone to think 'ok, I definitely want personalised chocolate for my wedding/party/corporate event and that's it'. Most people want to browse through a range of stuff.

The problem with this is most women know you don't put wedding dresses and chocolate in the same room. And you don't put kids, wedding dresses and chocolate in the same building.

That's why they all go for sugared almonds, less chance of them ending up with chocolate on their nice dress.

There's nothing a bride to be likes imagining more than a room full of guests in their best dresses and a load of kids covered in chocolate.
  • Thanks, Geordie Joe - you gave me a laugh! You are right of course. But the orders keep coming in, so people must be prepared to take the risk.

I think there is a general feeling that people are bored with sugared almonds and that children don't like them. Also people love novelty in such a peripheral item. I just meant that if brides were decided on chocolate favours, they would go for 'smart' chocolate rather than supermarket bars.

Actually I do children's parties more than weddings - the parents are prepared for mess there anyway!
