This is sort of money related as I need a passport to open a bank account. My query is about the kind of person you need to vouch for you. I don't know many people of authority to countersign my passport application.
Would a police inspector count as a person of authority on an application?

Your Doctor would count too, although he may charge a fee for this depending on how friendly or otherwise you are with him.Herman - MP for all!0

Thanks Robyne, no he's not related to me, he just plays in the brass band that my husband conducts, we've known him about 5 years now through the band and social functions.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Have you got children?
My sons teacher did ours and she didn't charge anything for doing them. It must be a qualified teacher though and not a classroom assistant or other school worker. Here I go again on my own....0 -
That's a great idea about the teacher, trouble is we live in one of those areas where the teachers seem to come and go every 5 minutes.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

surly there must be someone in the conducting/band circles with a military past who could sign!
Getting ready for the area?Smile it confuses people!0 -
Sorry squarecat, I'm not making any sense today am I?
The police inspector is a member of the band, LOL. Hubby and I have known him for about 5 years and he is a lovely guy so that was why I was asking if I would be able to use him as a 'guarantor' (whatever the technical term is) for my passport.
area competitions you mean? Luckily hubby doesn't do those anymore, he conducts for the Constabulary band and they're not part of the competing circuit, thank the lord. I couldn't stand the stressOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Hi Moggins,
I think you can use a lot of people.
The postmaster ( i think that's what you call him) LOL ! the guy who works in the post office he signed mine and i had no problems.
I think you can also have people who work in the bank.
My other half had an old school friend who has his own elctrical business and has around 10 people who work for him he countersigned his and that went through fine aswell.
I hope this helps :-)

You have to have known the signatory personally for two years which is why our doctor refuses to do them now unless you have been going to the surgery regularly in that time. He charges a whopping fee to do so though.
They do randomly check signatories - my boss was telephoned after he countersigned for my son and was asked to confirm that he knew my son personally and had done for two years.0 -
According to http://www.ukpa.gov.uk/faqs/faq.asp?strAreaNo=321_1&intelement=454
Who can countersign my application?
After you have completed the form in full, including section 9, section 10 should be completed and signed by one of the people below, or someone of similar standing in the community, who has known you for at least 2 years. The latest version of the application form asks the countersignatory to enter their current British passport number (Irish passport numbers are also acceptable). This is necessary to enable us to check identity. You should give the countersignatory your complete application together with photographs, documents fee and envelope, so that they can seal the application after completing section 10. (In the case of a child Section 10 should be signed by someone of the relevant standing who has personally known the person who signs the declaration at Section 9 rather than the child).
