Can I arrange for creditors to take payments from benefits?

Options
Im doing a DMP at the moment but have been advised that I should be doing DIY debt management or using payplan or another debt charity to deal with my debts as DMP companys take a valuable chunk of your money for their "fees" whereas payplan etc are free.

So at the moment, after valuable advice from some MSEers (thankyou by the way!), Im looking into DIY and all other possible avenues.

My water rates (including debt) get taken straight from my benefits so I dont have to worry about that.

If i do go DIY and send all my creditors my SOA, would they take their debt directly out of my benefits as the water company does?

My creditors would then get paid every 2 weeks rather than every month and ive been informed that the DWP will only let them take a certain amount due to the amount the law says you need to live on.

Im asking if this would be possible as ive had creditors in the past ask if i would allow them to take payment from my benefits.

Any replies/advice on this would be much appreciated
TIA x

  • I would look at paying them manually yourself, I wouldn't trust some creditors to just take what you offer, they have your bank details then, and could wipe you out. They don't always care that you are struggling, all they will be bothered about is getting what is owed to them.

You could try CCCS or Payplan, as they will take one monthly amount and send the payments to the creditors on your behalf. it would be a lot easier for you if you have a few creditors.

I meant arrange with my creditors and DWP to have them take money directly from my Income Support so they dont even go near my bank account, the DWP will be sending them the money directly out of my benefits every 2 weeks.

Im currently with Chiltern Debt Management, paying 85 a month, only 50 of that goes to my creditors after they have taken their fees. and i owe approx 5 1/2 k.
