Tattoo placement? ROP

  • Feet aren't supposed to be that bad I don't think, unless you're getting the soles tattooed. The most painful one for me was my forearm, the others were surprisingly ok! If you're being tattooed by a skilled artist, the pain factor is definitely much lower than if it was an amateur with an Ebay-bought tattoo gun.

I reckon all those men who say they hate women with tattoos are just too scared to get one themselves ;) seeing as women's pain tolerance is supposed to be much higher than men's.

Oh, and personally I wouldn't really decide on the placement because of the pain factor - the pain is only temporary but the ink will be there for ever. Just make sure you don't drink alcohol the day before and have a proper breakfast and take some sugary drinks with you.

I've never been to a tattoo convention but from what I've heard they are loads of fun! Send me a pic of your new ink! :D

Well I've got 3 tattoos, 1 on my shoulder, 1 on my hip and one on my foot. The foot one was the only one that I found painful, especially near the toes and along the side.
  • I have been getting my full arm sleeved. Being a female, I've had quite a few funny looks lol. However, I really like how it looks & have not even slightly regretted any of it.

In fact, I'm hoping to get a chest piece & my other arm sleeved. I don't even give an ounce of consdieration to how I will look when I'm old. I might never reach "old age" & even if I do, I'll probably get more & the old ones re-coloured.

The only thing I'd say is...question why you are getting a tattoo & try to avoid the it's fashionable excuse.

That's a really nice placement, but I think it depends on the tattoo. As you're going for text like hers it'll look fantastic, but other tattoos may not fit that placement so well.

It would certainly be easy enough to cover up when you wanted too. I have one on my shoulder and it peeps out often, so I have to wear tops with sleeves at work or a shrug/cardi over the top!

I've heard feet are quite bad which makes sense as they're a bony area. My ankle was a bit painful and a bit of a shock after my shoulder where I felt no pain whatsoever!

Why oh why do people comment on tattoo threads do have a pop? We're hardly going to be flaunting our skin when we're old and wrinkly so who cares? You're so right, we only have one life so we should live it how we like!

I have a foot tattoo, I was petrified (but determined to do it, I always said if I can get a tattoo I can do anything) as I'm really soft and have a super low pain threshold. I'm also an internet addict and spent ages looking up foot tattoo pain and reading about the agony!

HOWEVER... It wasn't even that painful! Mine is 2 words and a butterfly. When he was doing long strokes it felt like my skin was going to be dragged off, and the butterfly outline was tender as the area was already red from doing the writing. But it's more 'sweaty palms' than 'tears and crying'. The only sore bit was the last letter as it was very close to my toe, therefore a bone!

Honestly it was about 1000th of what I thought the pain would be. Maybe that's because I researched and went to someone with a fabulous reputation in the UK and abroad. Most tattooists at conventions have been invited so I'm sure you'll be safe in any of their hands.

Placement is very important... I wouldn't do anything on the arm as some jobs are really funny about that, but anything on the back you can cover easily. Think very carefully about placement, e.g the tattoo on that pic is placed so that when you wear some tops you'll see it all, it won't be half covered. My tattooist was really good at that, he placed it so that when I wear slip on shoes you can see it all, it's not half covered (which would look daft) I really want a henna style one across my back now... easily covered with a shirt for work.

Also - don't take painkillers, it could affect the bleeding and many pros won't do it if you've taken something. You won't need them!

Thanks so much everyone, yeah I was going to go for a quote there (not the same one as her haha). I was thinking of getting that one because I think the placement is more complex than the foot one I want, so getting a better tattooist might've been a better idea?

I want something that will celebrate my graduation (in June), so I've been looking at educational/learning quotes/poems etc see if there's anything I fancy :)

I bet you will look fantastic when you start getting older

I have seven tattoos and when I am older I agree they may not look as good as they do now. Neither will my body generally.

I think I'll look back on them with happiness and remember the period in my life that they each represent, much like you would when looking through a photo album.
