Solar Home Energy and Barclays Partner Finance

I bought a Solar Home system (worth £5,600) about 3 yrs ago, from Solar Home Energy (SHE), paying the initial deposit of £250 with a Visa debit card, and outstanding amount financed by Clydesdale Finance, on 1 year BNPL basis. Clydesdale was soon to be taken over by Barclays Partners Finance.
System never worked (we did not observe the promised reduction in energy bills), and there was also some damage to our property during installation.
Eventually got a solicitor involved after about a year, when SHE did not respond to normal calls to rectify problems, and as a result got a visit from the MD. He apologised profusely, and along with the Technical guy, agreed the system wasn't workiing. We thereafter reached an out of court agreement that SHE would fix the system, and also that onset of repayments on the Finance agreement would be deferred to the point when the system became functional.
I signed off the repair work but after a couple of mths, remained unconvinced that the system was working.
Worse still, one of the pipes connected to the storage tank
ruptured recently, and we've had to turn off the system completely.
In addition, we've had to change boiler unit twice since this palaver started, and a Corgi plumber has confirmed to us that the boiler issues are as a result of the Solar system.

Alarmingly, SHE appear to have dissappeared completely from the planet. None of the phone lines, including the MD's mobile, work anymore, and they've completely dissappeared from the internet. so I can't even get them to repair the system. Just confirmed the company is now dissolved

Been keeping up repayments on the loan, but is there anything we can do? Or do I have to keep paying for stuff we're not, and have never enjoyed? Also, the Financial agreements were sold to us by SHE.
Apologies for the long yarn!

I suspect you will still have to pay off the loan, have you discussed it with the finance company.
Even working solar HW systems save very little off your fuel bills and are unlikely ever to produce any return on investment.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Thanks for your post. Yet to raise with the Finance company..
