Help - Leak under Sink

Can anyone help - the piping under my kitchen sink is plastic, and the exit pipe which leads out to the drain doesn't stay 'inside' the main pipe that carries the water from out of the sink. It keeps coming loose, resulting in the water from the sink going everywhere around the cupboard below. Is there some way to fix this? I have a small circular thing which screws around the pipe leaving the sink - but I can't work out what this is for or whether it is designed to tighten the two pipes together.
Thanks in advance.

hi -thanks for the response, but the sink isn't blocked. I think it's that the outside pipe to the drain isn't the right size, just a smidgen too small and this is what is causing it to come loose. Going to try tape later to help it stay in.0

Plastic pipe is also very cheap; check out your nearest plumber supplier.0
