Yellow rice for Paella

Hey Guys,

Making Paella tonight. My first time, maybe a dumb question but I've got the ingredients from a recipe on BBC Good Food Guide. (http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4021/easiest-ever-paella)

Anyway I got the long grain rice, it is white, just wondering should I have got yellow rice, or will the white rice turn to yellow in the olive oil? I didn't see any yellow rice in Morrisons.

Anyone help, cheers guys!

Thanks,

D

Once you have cooked it the colour from the oil and chorizo will colour the rice

EDIT - Ignore the above nonsense - time for a lie down I think

The turmeric will turn the rice yellow. Surprised that saffron is not in the recipe - that's what traditionally turns the rice yellow, expensive though.

  • I have not used the BBC's recepie, but traditionally paella the colour of the rice turns a yellow/orange colour because of safron that is added.

My eyesight must be getting worse, turmeric or saffron was what I was looking for in the recipe and missed it - doh.

As you say saffron is expensive, hence turmeric I guess.

Saffron is what is used traditionally, it;s not quite so expensive in Spain.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
