Salary freeze

Right.... Work for Company A, but got took over by Company B
Company B salaries are not as high as company A's
So, people at Company A (like me) have had pay freezes, now for three years.
Review in a few months, but people over £30k, might get one !...
With the inflation, petrol prices etc now, could I ask for a payrise, especially as I have not had one for 3 years....
REASON for my payfreeze.... Person working at Company B does the same work as you or there about and is not on as much, so I am on a pay rise until I guess person at Company B catches up.....
That is what I was told..... is that justifiable, because I do think it unfair as we were two different companies in the first place ?
If you think I have a case to put forward, especially with the inflation increases as it is how would I go about it.
I am well liked and work hard and have 100% attendance for nearly 7 years !
Thank you your comments would be appreciated

Do you have any contractual right to pay increases? If not then there isnt much you can do.
I can see why they have frozen pay, to harmonise the pay differences between the two companies and create a more equal pay scale moving forward.
Sorry not much help in your situation.0 -
Ask and justify why you think you are worth a rise.
If there are people doing basicaly the same job you ned to be better than them and be able to show it, if not forget it.
Ask yourself what would have happened to company A if B had not taken them over.0 -
Companies don't necessarily get taken over because they are in trouble.getmore4less wrote: »Ask yourself what would have happened to company A if B had not taken them over.
Often smaller companies get bought by larger ones when they would have got on quite (often better) if they had not been taken over.
In this case the OP should be looking at what comparable jobs at other companies are paying it could be that a case can be made to raise the salaries of everyone for the company to avoid loosing people.
It's not possible to justify paying co A and co B people different salaries, but it may be possible to justify some people getting more than others based on skills or productivity.0 -
Thank you all for your info....
Company A was doing well.. no worries... making a bigger profit than company B who took us over....
Just unfair that we have to suffer... we get paid well because we do a good job and make money.....
And Company B can pay freeze our salary for how long ?
thank you0 -

Not enough for the owners it would seem they were happy to sell up.
They can freeze pay for as long as they want, even companies that have contractual salaries review don't have to ive rises.
If you really believe that they are paying below market rates then get the evidence.
If all you do is moan about not getting rises it just focuses the attention on the lower paid doing the same job, focus on why you are worth more.0 -
would you still be asking these questions if it was the other way around, you getting a rise to harmonise your pay with others?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I work for local government and we have also had a 0% cost of living rise for the past 3 three years, with no sign of anything changing soon. It's non-negotiable.
It's not all it's made out to be working in the public sector0 -
They can freeze your pay forever, at least until the minimum wage catches up.
In recent times many companies have had pay freezes or low rises, but I think if your pay is frozen for more than ~2 years or so you will never catch up later and it is time to consider moving on to another job.
Time to brush up that CV, OP.0
