Windows doesn't "just work"

At the time that he wrote it , he did indeed say "I'm tempted" (allow me to correct your expansion) - but as he made the post YESTERDAY MORNING, the context of what he said is now in the past tense.
Glad I could help you with that
Sorry I disagree, just because he posted it yesterday, doesn't mean it's now in the past tense. It could still be tempted, it only stops being present when he isn't being tempted.
And as a Linux lover, I suspect he is still tempted!0 -
Not being able to fix a PC doesn't mean you can't learn how to use a different operating system. Or is being able to fix hardware issues a prerequisite for switching OS's?
I think the poster was mainly aiming at the fact that they might not want to learn something new about computers and are happy and comfortable with what they had.
Have you thought of just asking them beforehand?0 -
Did I say the OP was GOING to put Lbuntu on it? No, I was simply giving an example of what might happen if he DID... seeing as the OP said he was tempted to.
Ironic that you mention other people's reading, writing and comprehension skills!
Actually what you said was "... they'll probably struggle when you introduce a new system..."
I can see where the confusion came up.
And the last part "... In the end they'll probably take it to a computer shop to be "fixed properly" ..." assumes I've already done it.0 -
Haha, this thread is hilarious.
Hey guys, my 12 year old car doesn't have cruise control, air conditioning, leather seats, climate control or low profile tyres
I hate Ford, they are useless!0 -

But didn't you take it in just the other day for a full service pack 3 update to the very latest specifications? No? Oh. Don't worry - you ain't missin' nowt'
Get yourself a Version 7 - nothing will bluddy work with that and it's only a year old......
The Complete The Sentence Competition:Oh dear. You know a thread has hit rock bottom when....
The use of English becomes the core focus of the thread?
Old cars are mentioned?

I don't know why everyone keeps assuming I've installed Lubuntu.:rotfl:
Just for the record XP is on the netbook atm all drivers in place and fully updated thanks to Win Update and Slim Driver and all programs installed thanks to Ninite, as my friends wanted.
All I did was replace a hard drive. I tried Lubuntu from a LiveCD which work flawlessly, that was all. The thread was a moan about having to search the internet from another computer for drivers.
Will I show them Lubuntu - Yes.
Will I install it without their say so - No.0 -

Read my other posts. I never said you've installed it, just that you've said that you are tempted.
Obviously the bit in bold clears it up thoughI thought you were just being a plonker and going to install Lubuntu and give it back to them and telling them to deal with it

If he needed advice on being a plonker he would have consulted you - it's the standard MSE protocol to seek the advice of a demonstrable expert...... :rotfl:0 -

I began by saying "To the OP, you can try them on Lubuntu if you like, but...". I then gave a likely scenario of what might happen if he did. If there's any confusion it's because you are no good at interpreting meaning from text.23n1th wrote:I don't see why they would want to get ripped off at a computer shop?0 -
Talk about quoting out of context.

I wasn't confused at all. I gave a likely scenario of what might have happened. Just like you. What makes you think the computer shop will do anything other than charge a fair and reasonable price for the work? Your thoughtless use of words seems to have you implying all computer shops are rip-off merchants.
What makes you think that my friends are going to struggle? I thought since you were generalising I could as well.
Anyway since I did the work for free I think any computer shop charging after the fact is a rip off, seeing as nothing needs done, I'm sure you'll agree.0
