Veggie meat against real meat

  • Why are all these vegetarians trying to make their food look like the meat they won't eat anyway? I don't sit making my steak look like a brussels sprout

Most vegetarians have chosen their diet for animal welfare / health / budget reasons, not because the look or taste of meat turns them off. Also, many were brought up eating chili, spag bol, lasagne etc, so why not eat something with a taste they like without any of the negatives?

I have fed veggie mince to a lot of omnis, and it always goes down well. Fortunately, none of them seemed to be afflicted with raging wind afterwards either! ;) Although some omnis can tell when something isn't made with meat, does it really matter as long as it tastes great, is good for you, easy on the pocket and, most importantly, doesn't contain cow lips or other such "offal" stuff? :rotfl:

  • I am not a vegetarian but I always thought that they believed that apes were because they say things like "gorillas don't have trouble with getting enough protein." Well anyway I thought that apes were as well until I saw the David Attenborough show Planet Earth last week. For those that missed it a gang of chimps attacked a rival group and ate one of the babies. I was so surprised at that.

Chimps are not veg, though they don't eat a lot of meat. I believe most apes consume an almost veg diet, the exception being the insects they eat incidentally.

chimps do eat meat................did anyone see the planet earth last week I think it was where they killed and ate another chimp.

Back to topic my oh is veggie and daughter vegan so always have something in freezer, not tried the holland and barrett stuff for them but will do, as for taste, texture yes I can tell the difference and not at all keen on the veggie stuff - so they get that and I mince my own meat.

  • Another diagnostic of having eaten it is that within ½ hour I get immense raging wind from veggie mince :D

I have the opposite problem. I am vegan, not for animal rights reasons but because I think it leads to a fairer distribution of food around the world. I also have great health benefits from it :D Because of this I will, on occasion, eat animal products especially if it makes things very awkward for
people if I don't. However my body does notice and I end up really wishing I hadn't:o

I think that it must be because we get used to a certain type of food and we notice changes however sutble.
