parsley sauce - freezing and making

Hi can anyone tell me how to make parsley sauce please.

I can make a basic white sauce for lasagne etc and was wondering if it was the same as that just with added parsley?

And can i put it in the slow cooker with some fish or will it thicken too much?

  • Heres how I roughly make my white sauce

    knob of butter (about 1/2oz)
    about 1/2 oz flour
    1/2 pint milk
    salt & pepper

When basic white sauce is made bung in chopped parsley and cook for a further couple of mins stiring all the time. Hope this helps.

  • Agree with the above. I tend to make it several hours beforehand to really let the taste of the parsley come through.

I love parsley sauce - especially with steamed salmon/new pots/peas, or cold ham and pots

Only 11am and now I am hungry again!

One of my granddaughters came home from school and said she had 'Green Gravy' on her dinner and it was lovely.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Thanks everyone I thought that was the way to do it but thought i'd better check in case I made some hideous mistake. ( It wouldn't be the first time.)

It's bubbling away nicely in the slow cooker and smells lovely.

i will have to try this as my hubby is a londoner and loves pie, mash and liquor which is something unheard of up here in scotland but the liquor is just like a parsley sauce so i might give him a treat

As it says, can I freeze it? (home made, fresh parsley) I freeze cheese sauce all the time, but just wanted to check that the parsley wouldn't go slimey :o

    Thanks :)

Yes, certainly you can. If I've got a bit left over, I freeze it and use it later for thickening soups. It's particularly good in leek soup.

of course you can! if you put parsley in a sauce - it cooks so will freeze. fresh parsley does tend to go slimey if you freeze it as is. if you think about it hun, you can get frozen fish in parsley or butter sauce. and i have frozen leftover parsley sauce and its been fine defrosted then reheated gently.
