Really important to check your bank a/c daily

at least...:(
since my LBM I check at least once a day and balance with my spending diary.
So, over the weekend worked out that I would be below £8, thus preventing me going into overdraft...so decided to check again earlier, and found I was 56 pence (yes, 56 pence!) over. Double checked everything and found that I was £8 exactly adrift. This is the amount my bank charges for returned payments. I had already paid for the months Jan/Feb earlier this month so wasn't expecting another £8 to go out so soon.
I have been so careful since last month but remember I messed up once.
I called my bank and asked if they would take the 56 pence into account as I had money going in tomorrow, and was told, yes! Plus it would cost me £22! Fortunately I had a small amount in another account which they could transfer over and save me from the £22 charge...
So, could have ended up with a £30 bank charge! For one returned payment and 56 pence!!
It makes me furious.

That's a bit too close for comfort.
You could do with a small buffer, although I imagine that's easier to say than to do.
I wonder if it's almost worth missing a couple of debt repayments on purpose to give you a bit of liquidity?
No doubt the lender will still be there to take your money the following month.0 -
I started a new job a few months back and was 43p in the red the day before my first pay and they were going to charge me 25 quid!!!! Fortunately they decided to let me off as Im not normally in the red....
Agree with NeverAgain totally, you need a teeny cushion, saves the stress! I do however agree with checking online banking each day too - good habit methinksLight Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0
