Red Debt Collection - help!

Hello, This is my first post on here but I really need some advice!

A few weeks ago I got a letter from Red Debt Collection saying that I owe T-mobile £303.85.It was addressed to me in my maiden name and I have been married for nearly 4 years now.

I ignored it because if I did have a T-mobile account it was when I was 18 ( I'm now 28!) I can't remember if I ever did have one :(
Then a few days ago I got another letter saying that they were going to take action to recover the debt.

I went to Citizens Advice Bureau this morning and explained the situation to the woman there and she phoned them. I had to confirm my identity to them and my new name so she could speak to them on my behalf. She did say to them that I wasn't even sure it was my debt and if it was then its 10 years old and I wouldn't even consider paying it until I had proof.

I am now worried that the phone call is me acknowledging the debt as mine and Im going to have to pay it!?

Did I do the right thing or should I just have sent a letter saying I don't acknowledge it?

Can anyone help me?

I think you can only confirm it's your dept with a signature or offer of payment, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY if the debt is over 6 years old AND there is no CCJ, I don't think they can get the money off you anyway as it's statute barred

Even if it was yours, then it would be statute barred.

There is a letter in this link to send that disputes that the debt is yours, but also says that it would be statute barred anyway.

If you send that, then make sure it goes by recorded delivery.
