Young Drivers' Car Insurance Discussion

Advice required. My son has been a named driver on my insurance for the last few months. Unfortunately after he had an accident (he was unhurt) and wrote off my car it’s time for him to get his own car and insurance policy. Does he have to declare the accident when getting an insurance quote as it was my policy and my claim. Any advice greatly appreciated.0

He was driving your car, an accident happened, he was insured on your policy and a claim was made, Id say he does need to declare it as a claim was made.
Maybe ask the insurer the question.0 -

I'm looking for follow on insurance for 2 18 year olds who passed their test in April and July this year. We insured them both on an iKube policy through Towergate in November last year just after they turned 17 (which was simple enough at the time to set up and 'only' £1300 for a Hyundai i10).
Their driver score is great, and we were intending to continue with the policy, however we have just had a letter saying that iKube have made a business decision not to continue in the young driver market.
I tried the Coop suggestion on the MSE Young Driver section but they declined to quote. We are happy to go with another telematic device, but having already paid out around £80 for the current box, we are not particularly happy paying for another.
So the questions are :
Is there another insurer that uses the RAC telematics system?
Would the driver score that they have built up in the first year apply to a discount on a new policy?_____________________________________________Mortgage 1 £80k paid off july 2014Mortgage 2 £213k paid off May 20210 -
Hello,
my 18 year old son passed his driving test in July, we added him to our insurance at an extra cost of £865.
He has now left to go travelling in America for 5 months.
Is it worth taking his name off the insurance (to receive a £556 refund), or is it best to keep his name on the policy so that he builds up the amount of time he has been insured, so when the renewal comes it is cheaper?
Any advice gratefully received.

I've had the black box for 11 months now. I started with 400 upfront and 80 a month for 8000 miles. Bought 9000 so far and it's up at 320 for the final 4 months. 1 month left to pay.
At first for 1000 miles at 5+ score it was 110 to 120 for them now its costing around 150-160. Are they allowed to put the price up? Thinking about phoning them about why the cost has went up0 -
Hi I have two teenagers aged 17 and 18 (nearly 19) and want to insure them as learners ideally on the same small car (not yet purchased).
Has anyone found a company that will do this without breaking the bank? I can be a 3rd named driver to lower costs.
Any advice about types of cars too? Are newer ones easier to insure due to better safety features?
Marmalade would not insure both on the same car. I presume any policy based on a black box will be the same otherwise how do they identify which person is driving?

You will see from research that the cars cheaper to insure are the ones boy racers are less likely to buy eg estate cars or Daihatsu, maybe Daewoo.

We're just in the process of buying a car for our not quite 17 year old. I would like him to be the registered keeper and the holder of the insurance policy. Is there a way I can do this while retaining myself as a named driver so that the car is used before he turns 17 in April, or do I need to own the car and the insurance and then "sell" it to him and get separate insurance for him?
Many thanks for any help you can give.0 -
Buy the car in his name, and insure it in his name with yourself as a named driver. Quite straightforward. Best to register it on his birthday rather than earlier.0
