Buying a projector

Options
I am looking to purchase a projector.

This one seems to have favourable reviews:
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/114124
http://www.benq.com.au/products/Projector/?product=600
ftp://211.78.86.207/projector/brochures/mp620p.pdf

However, from what I can tell, its not a dedicated home cinema projector:
http://www.superwarehouse.com/BenQ_projectors/b/312/c/1936

It appears to be categorised as a multimedia projector.

Does this seem to be a good projector to get - I am not looking to spend more than £700.

How can I tell if it will plug into my speaker system?

Thanx

  • Hi AMO,

I don't have answers to your questions, in fact I'm trying to choose a projector too.

I do have this to contribute though:

    http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm

Very handy as this will do calculate the image size given the distance (among other things), works for loads of projectors, including the BenQ MP620p you are interested in.

    Cheers,

    Hi Bobbins,

I've settled on its big brother, the MP720DLP mainly because:
    1) Its got DVI
    2) Its got an economy mode that makes the bulb last longer than the MP620DLP.

Was slightly concerned initially. There are many types of projectors out there, but enough time has passed such that DLPs are as good as the traditional CRT projectors. Haven't heard much on LCD projectors.

There are also several types of projector. The MP720DLP is an all purpose projector, for presentations, multimedia as well as home cinema and gaming. There are other projectors that are dedicated to home cinema. There are pros and cons as home cinema only projectors are not so sharp when displaying text.

    I found this link useful:

Also, many people also recommend going here:

although I haven't found them to be a good source for which projector to go for. They are good for comparing prices once you find the one you want.

Personally, I logged onto a few retail websites, got a few reviews of projectors, looked at their specifications and went to that manufacturer's home page.

I think I did well spending just under £700 as I need it to be a general purpose projector.

    Hope that helps.

Guys, it is really worth going to www.avforums.com before making any purchases in the av dept. They are an invaluable resource and there is a dedicated forum regarding home cinema projectors. I've been a member of it for years and there are plenty of people with experiences, what's good or bad, customer support, etc.
