Santander - request for information

Hi,
I wrote to my creditors last month declaring myself to be in debt crisis and making token offers of £1 per month. I did this through the CCCS website and used their template letter and Statement of Affairs. Most creditors have accepted however Santander Credit Card are saying that I have not provided enough information. They have told me that I need to complete their income and expenditure form as well as providing pay slips, bank statements and copies of balances from other creditors before they will consider accepting my offer. Can they do this? Do I have to comply? It seems like a lot of work and expense not to mention an intrusion of privacy. Interestingly, they have accepted the offer on my Santander bank account.

They can ask for anything. You don't have to supply anything at all.
The balance is in giving them enough information for them to accept your offer and hopefully agree to freeze interest etc. Is the I&E form pretty much the same as the info you have already sent? I'd probably consider filling this in in their format just to keep them happy. Most people choose not to give creditors any of the other info they have asked for. A few people do provide copy payslips (I personally wouldn't)- but if you did decide to then black out everything else including your employers name, your tax code, any deductions etc.
Did the info you sent from the CCCS website list your other creditors/balances?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
You may find Santander are a pain to deal with, they seem to make it up as they go along so its really best just to play it your own way, be firm and they should play along.
I lost count of the times i've been defaulted by Santander on my cc, loan and overdraft now. It is easily double figures. that is full default by the way not just a threat!
Keep strong, play it your own way and you will be fine.I'm Debt Free :j 2/09/2013

Hey
That is strange to me because I must admit Santander were the easiest for me to handle. I wrote the same as you from CSSS information and they replied straight away asking me to call to discuss things. I did call them and I explained my situation and they accepted my offer of £1 per months. They were by far easiest to use.
I hope they listen to you. I would not send them anyting myself as other people on here say. I had Crap It All One chasing me like that and they would not give in, totally awful they were.
Hope it does get better for you.0 -
As someone else has said they do appear to make it up as they go along. If another person had picked up the information they may have accepted the offer without asking for the other info which appears to have happened on the bank account.
If they want to confirm the balances on your other debts then they could check your credit files as most of them are probably on there but I cannot see what can be gained from doing that as you have not offered pro-rata payments which they might want to check.
The only time creditors have asked for proof of other debts is where there is a CCJ and the court has ordered a set payment to be paid, in that instance we sent copies of the court paperwork and it was fine.
I have been asked for proof of benefits before now and if I have them I send them, if I don't I don't send them and the offers are usually accepted anyway.
I personally would not send bank statements or proof of other debts and if I sent my wage slips I would cross out all information not relevant (as someone above also mentioned), no need to send proof of benefits as these are for the children. The next thing will be you have to provide birth certificates to prove you have 3 children :rotfl:
You could send a letter explaining this and re-offering £1.00 per month again and enclose a copy of one wage slip (if you want to).
Whatever you do make sure you keep sending the £1 payment each month.
