Tax refund help...

Hello,

I have worked for an agency for just under a year in the same job. I did get a letter months ago saying my tax code had been changed, so I contacted my agency who said to send this form to the HR department which I did, and presumed it had been dealt with and changed to the new code.

Anyway I had a problem last week with wages, and the agency had to contact wages department for me, who told them this morning I'm on an emergency tax code (BR) and need to get it sorted. They said they never received my letter informing them of correct tax code.

So I contacted my local tax office this morning, who said yes I'm on wrong code and am owed a refund, but as it is nearly at the end of the financial year (6th April) it would probably be best to contact them again then, but they have updated my records so tax code will be correct for April.

So the plan is to ring them back after the 6th April, but I'm just wondering how long the refund normally takes as I've never had to do it before. Do they send you a letter breaking down what you are owed etc, or just send out a cheque? I'm guessing it's not a quick process??

Thanks :)
