So where did it go?

Hubby asked me last night where all my money went as he buys "things" and I don't...................so I looked through all my old statements and you know? I couldn't possibly put my finger on it!

I used to withdraw loads of cash from my credit card - nothing to show for it. And I used to spend shedloads in asda - we must have thrown out so much food as I went from one healthy phase to another - still fat!
And I bought loads in pet city. and in the butchers for the dogs. and in the health food shop. Completely mad. In my old job i used to spend every day on the sandwich lady and the vending machine. I resent that now!

So is anyone else like me? Clueless as to where it went?
If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome! :p

  • Yep,that's me too. I blush to think of the food I've thrown out over the years, the clothes I've never worn (now sold on eBay) and the amount I've wasted on magazines, drinks etc.

You know, I wouldn't care so much about this debt if I had a house full of designer items and a sleek sports car sitting outside!

I'm sure I'll get jumped on for saying this, but here goes anyway.........

men buy "things", otherwise known as toys, gadgets, gizmo's etc

women buy "essentials" - food, wine, chocolate, that just evaporate a lot quicker.

I know where I'd rather my money went - bottoms up.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Are you sure chocolates and wine are essentials?! ;)

Elsien you are right with me....i bought a lot of shiny gadgets (i'm attracted to shiny things like a magpie!) but the one saving grace of these is that you can sell them and get a fair bit back for them.
  • I know where my credit card bill came from, but my overdraft? Nothing to show for it at all!!!!

How true, I spent on treats like steak, organic veg, salmon etc. but I have also spent on expensive glossies like Good Houskeeping and woman and home which I have read in 10 minutes and found they were full of adverts for things I would never afford, NEVER AGAIN!!no more frittering away, every penny has to count now.

Yes, that is absolutely the truth in my case. I do a large shop every week or so and my OH gives me the half of the money. Since I've been doing a spending diary, I have noticed that as we run out of essentials during the week, I tend to buy them in my lunchhour. This can add up to £5 to £10 a week and of course I never get any money back from OH for this. I know its my own fault but it seems petty to ask for £2 or £3. So looking back over my diary its clear to me that a lot of money has gone on food and household stuff for both of us.

That's the beauty of the spending diary - I now keep the receipts for these smaller purchases and then add them on to the big shop when asking OH for the shopping money :D

I know what you mean about having nothing to show for it though. I have a wardrobe full of clothes that won't fit as I need to lose weight. I don't have a car but I do have lots of happy memories from the lovely holidays we have been on.
Dealing with my debt and my weight :D
    Debt at LBM 22/12/08 £33,270
Debt now £30,100 (9.5% paid off)

    £2 coins saved and banked = £210
  • I have a few things to show for my money spending antics! A lot of my dosh went on my student days, when I didn't think twice at withdrawing money on my credit card and blowing it on drunken nights out!

I don't have any regrets about my money cos I did have the best time at university, however, I would like to have remembered more of it :D !

Now it will take the rest of my twenties to pay back all that money I spent, but once that's done I know that I will never get into debt again. :j
