What did you ask the first time you viewed venue?
Going to view one on Saturday, Might stay quiet and see what they have to offer, have a think and then e-mail them once I've thought about things.
I'm sure I should ask something though

There are a few threads about this topic in the forum, worth having a search.
A few basics:
Costs (venue hire, food, drinks, corkage etc)
Maximum / Minimum numbers allowed
Do you get exclusive use.
What dates do they have availiable.
And if there's anything specific that you want (eg fireworks) is it allowed.0 -
Someone asked the same questions a while ago.
The thread is here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2977320 should give you some ideas.

Thanks all...I've used the link and put my list together. Looking forward to Saturday!....did you print your list and make notes?
- Is your venue available on the required date?
- How long will they hold your date before you have to pay a deposit?
- Payment - method, instalments, deposits, when is balance due?
- Is there a Master of Ceremonies included in price? If not how much does one cost?
- Is there any where to take the pictures if it's raining?
- Do they set up for you?
- Will the venue be decorated for Christmas?
- Do you allow candles?
- Do you allow scatter crystals?
- Can you devise your own menu?
- Do they do menu tastings?
- Is there a minimum spend at the bar?
- What time do you serve alcohol until?
- What time entertainment has to stop
- When does the room need to be cleared by?
- Are there areas which can be used as a quieter/chill out area
- Do you have a room where presents can be stored until we can collect them, and are you insured against loss or damage?

Yes. I arranged my list so that there was space for answers, then printed one off for each venue as we arranged visits.
