Effect of Japan disaster on mortgages

Firstly, I dont want to make this sound like personal benefit from the events of Japan my heart goes out to the country but ive read on few articles that due to the Worlds GDP for Japan and effect on global economy, it is believed BOE will stay lower a little longer as fixed rates esp 5yrs will drop again possibly under 4%. Is nationwide an example who have reduced their rates

Comments

  • Probably being counter-balanced by the inflationary effects of the Libya impact on oil...and higher prices for electronics from Japan due to shortages following reductions in production due to brown-outs etc...

Don't get over excited about low base rates. The most likely impact is an even higher cost of liquid gas and other energy forms. So potentially rising utility bills of around 15% in the next 12 months if current price levels are maintained.

I think the problem we now have is that on a global economic scale, we are in uncharted territory, and I think it is fair to say that globally, we are in a complete mess, as a result I don't see rates changing dramatically.
