Vinegar as cleaning product

The cleaning lady at the office recommended Homecare's white vinegar for cleaning windows and I have to say, I am pleased with the results. The only problem, I would have to go out of my way to buy it. So I am aiming to keep the Homecare stuff for cleaning the windows (£ 1) and use the Co-op's multi purpose cleaner (40p) for cleaning the kitchen.

Alternatively, can I just use white vinegar for food preparation for cleaning purposes or do I have to dilute it first ? The Homecare bottle's label reads "acetic acid ... %", which doesn't give any clue if the product is diluted or not.

TIA
Keep calm and carry on

Not sure of the answer to your question but if it helps Wilkinsons sell the clear stuff in a squirty bottle for £1.

A good general purpose surface (inc. windows) cleaner is one-third water, white vinegar & Stardrops, in an old spray bottle.

  • You can buy stardrops in wilkinsons you need to dilute it - very cheap and a bottle will last for ages - we use it here in London along with white vinegar we have very hard water - it is the bane of bane of my life!!!
  • If you have a Chinese supermarket anywhere near you look there. I picked up a 5L bottle of white vinegar for about £3. It's exactly the same stuff as the spray bottle. I use it for loads of things including fabric softener. I use about 2 tbsp per wash with about 10 drops of lemon essential oil ( don't need to use the lemon oil I just like the smell) It doesn't leave your laundry smelling like vinegar either. Sometimes I even use it on....chips!

You don't need to buy any ready-mixed products, and you don't need fancy vinegar, either. I recently found out that brown vinegar is ok for cleaning (doesn't stain if you rinse it, so maybe stick with white for polishing windows). I dilute it by half in spray bottles and add essential oils.

Yes, vinegar is also considered a cleaning product. But be careful not to spill it all over the area or you'll end up with a vinegar scent.
