Selling Books

Hi
Sorry if I've not put this in the correct section.
I am going to be buying a kindle but as I have quite a few books that I've not read all in brand new condition, but as I'm getting a kindle I want to rebuy these from the kindle store and sell the books to give me space and help rebuy them.
Where is the best place to sell? Thought about ebay but wasn't sure if there was a site like the ones for mobile phone and cd recycling.
Thanks

eBay and Amazon, but no guarantee of a) selling, b) reasonable price. If you/friend/relative doing a car boot sale, books do sell but again a) and b) apply. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I've had bad experiences selling books on Amazon (google for further details), so I would be wary if I were you. They give you a postage credit, which in no way covers the price postage (especially if it's a heavy textbook) or international shipping. I have made a loss many times doing this now, and sales are not frequent enough for me to justify it by saying I'm clearing out space.0

If they are heavy books you will lose out on postage....0

I have used Amazon for de-stashing some of my old uni text books, so far have done pretty nicely out of it, BUT do check the postage weights (I used the Royal Mail price list online combined with kitchen scales) to make sure the sums add up - as someone else has said, the postal credits are a standard amount so you have to price heavier books higher to compensate. Lots of useful info on Amazon's seller site, and most important they do not charge you to list an item like Ebay do - you can have an item on there for months and only get charged when it sells, so no loss if no takers!
Good luck!0 -
I use Amazon, like the others said you have to work out the selling price based on the postage credit. Sometimes you're up, other times you lose money. I don't bother with eBay anymore, I don't think as many people buy on there as they used to. I haven't really tried anywhere else.0

I've been selling books, DVD's & some of my husbands old video games on Amazon over the past few months & I have made over £400. I agree with the other posters that with books you do need to check that it is worth it, some books are heavy so you end up not actually making money by the time you've paid the postage. Amazon do give you a postage credit, which covers a lot of items but just do your homework, you can weigh the books using some normal kitchen scales & check the postage price on Royal Mail website then.
The only thing I will say with Amazon is that the fees once you've sold are quite high, especially now that the VAT has increased!!
If they're just cluttering up your house though you might as well sell them, better off making £1 than nothing at all
Good luck0 -
