Foundation or not for the quite mature

I am sorry to say I am over 60, still many haven't been blessed with a life as long as mine, so I am grateful.
Nevertheless, time does your skin no favours.
I have tried many foundations and the latest try is L'Oreal minerals, I am a sucker for the ads.
I find whenever I apply foundation it seems to kill any sort of life that may be evident in my skin.
My skin seems to look better foundation free.
What do others find?

I look like death warmed up without foundation. I normally wear it all day but if I am for instance, gardening and I'm spotted without it, people stop and ask if I've been ill.
I use a moisturiser, then Double Wear foundation, a dusting of powder plus a flush of rouge mineral powder, then I look more alive and normal.
Have a year and a bit until I'm 60. I hate seeing myself in the mirror in my bedroom but in the bathroom it's not quite so bad.
I will try a coloured moisturiser soon and see if that is better, would like one product instead of four.0 -
The L'Oreal mineral foundations are terrible. If you are going to buy a mineral foundation you should buy it from a company that specialises in mineral makeup (don't worry - I've made this mistake before too!).
My mum is 51 and likes Lancôme and Avon foundations so you may like to try either of those
Although saying that, if you don't *need* to wear foundation then don't!
Tinted moisturiser may be a better bet as they sometimes let your skin 'breathe' a bit more; Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown both do good ones.0 -
I'm 58 and think I look better with foundation and a touch of cream blusher as my skin looks very pale without it. I've tried mineral powder foundation but it makes my 'laughter lines' more prominent . I had a sample of Estee Lauder double wear foundation + it was a lovely texture but need to get the right shade . Use what products you think you look best in. Have you a friend or relative who would give you an honest opinion of whether you need to use a foundation ?0

I'm not over 60 but I do have fine lines. I find that a liquid foundation when mixed up with filler-type serums (Olay do one, think its regenerist or something, soap and glorey do one also).
I'd apply my moisturiser, allow it to settle for about 20 mins then mix with a brush some liquid foundation with some of the serum about 50-50. It does look like its not working at first but give it about 30 mins and it settles and looks much better.
I'd also youtube for videos if you want further tips, its whats helped me in the past.0 -
I lost lots of weight recently and as a treat for my birthday got my colours done. ( had tried to colour analyse myself from a book from the library but didn't fit any of the colours sets). The lady made me up in my colours and for the first time in my life I had a foundation colour that suited me. Bought all the makeup from ebay.So I recommend Colour me Beautiful morning light, light -defusing foundation.0

I really want to do this, must get round to it:D
I have found the best foundation when I feel my skin needs extra help is Maybelline satin liquid, it has a slightly dewey look but can be matted with a touch of powder applied with a large brush not a puff, it never settles in lines and feels light to wear its a bit like a very pigmented tinted moisturiser - hth:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
An extract from the Anti-Aging Beauty Bible in yesterday's Mail on Sunday You magazine recommends Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup, and Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Radiance Makeup as foundations for this age group. In fact the article has inspired me to get some new make up after not bothering much for years. Oh dear. Not very money saving!0

I am also over 60 ( just )and as I have got older, any foundation I wear just seems to settle in my lines and make me look even older. My skin is pretty good for my age, possibly due to an aversion to the sun and I find the best thing for me these days is tinted moisturiser, with a bit a cream blusher.
I love this one,in Fair, which is a very good match for my skin tone,as I am very pale.

It is quite sheer and seems to give my skin a glowy look which is very flattering to an older skin,it's brilliant.0 -
I'm in my sixties, too, and don't look great without foundation. My skin is blue with pink blotches, I think! Another vote for EL Doublewear. I am pale and wear Fresco which gives me a little extra colour without looking orange. A dusting of powder on the nose, chin and forehead, a touch of blusher and I am good to go. With Doublewear I don't even need concealer on my dark circles, the coverage is so good.0

I'm 60, I don't really like foundation but I do look better if I wear a little. I've tried the L'Oreal minerals but didn't like the look or the feel of it but Avon liquid (Perfect Match I think it is) is the best for me.
I only use a little bit and I use L'Oreal primer (Perfect Finish?) just a tiny bit, underneath it.0
