P45 Tax Paid Figure Wrong ?
Comments

thanks have dug out all the documents
P45 was correct for the period of working with total pay + tax matching his last working payslip
Further payslip issued for redundancy, lieu etc which is BR MTH1 as the tax code and has a gross taxable pay to date and tax paid to date that is pay from employment that matches P45 + taxable pay from redundancy.
No second P45 was issued and the copy that went to DWP has working only figures
I have done a calculation and the
P45 figures + taxable benefits generate pretty much the same tax overpayment as
the last payslip figures + taxable benefits
so the question is does the BR1 mean we do not need to bother stirring this up...trying not to build in delays as the refund is very much needed[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

If it's incorrect the correct process is they write to HMRC with the detail - should copy to you. They can't amend / re-issue the P45.HMRC wrote:If you made an error on the P45 and have already sent it to the employee and/or PAYE tax office (or sent it online), you should send a letter to your PAYE tax office confirming what the errors were and also send a copy of the letter to the employee. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Don't the employers get fined too for making mistakes/missing deadlines with PAYE tax matters?
Thus making them reluctant to admit to and correct mistakes?0 -

Found this link for fines relating to missing deadlines : HMRC employer penalties
But, I'm not sure if similar penalties exist for mistakes on P45s etc.
It would seem fair to allow employers to be able to correct mistakes without penalty and only apply a penalty if an employer regularly repeats similar mistakes. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Speak with the employer and tell them you need a P45 for this payment after leaving in order to claim back the overpaid tax.
No point doing this as the employer is not to produce a P45 for a payment after leaving, so they cannot issue one to you.Quidco cashback paid out so far £745.89 :j0 -
Update:
I went to see the ex employer HR dept today, they gave me a copy of the letter they sent to HMRC explaining the mistake that was made and informing them of the correct figure.
So to recap.
05/04/10 <
>26/11/10
Tax code 647L
Total pay to date........... 9054 . 00
Total tax to date..............963.40
So it seems I may receive a little more rebate than the £285 as suggested by BAA1.........Here's hoping.0
