Plus Size Brides & Flying

Hello ladies.after just being shot down in the Big Beautiful Brides section of a wedding forum I thought I would pose the same question to you lovely ladies in here, as I'm hopeful you will be kind
I'm a plus size bride to be (around size 24/26) now I know I need to lose weight (I know this because a slim lady on afore mentioned wedding forum told me so!!) but that didn't help my query at all !
SO....I'm due to fly out for my hen do next week and I'm worried I'm not going to fit in the seat very well, and it will be a really embarrassing experience, so just wondered if any other plus size ladies have any experience of this and could maybe offer some reassurance (diet advice not needed thanks
)
I hope everyone's plans are going well X
Thanks in advance

Maybe you could contact the airline in advance with your concerns - I am sure they are familiar with such situations and will be able to advise you.0

According to wikipedia, in economy class the seat width, between armrests, is between 43 and 46cms.0

Hi mistyw, I have similar "issues" shall we say, I fitted in the airline seat ok, but found the seatbelt a struggle, not sure but I think you may be able to ask for an extender for the seatbelt, but I was too embarassed:oBooo!!!0
-
Some airlines offer the seatbelt extenders without you asking. I flew with my friend a few years ago and whilst I don't know her exact size, she is big. At least a 20, I'd say. When people were getting seated, the stewardess asked her if she wanted one.
Oh, and I'd ignore those 'ladies' on the other forum! Not all skinny people are b1tches.0 -
Oh my word! I cannot believe anyone can be so rude! I'm sure if you speak to the airline before you go they'll be able to tell you more!
have fun on your hen though! : )0 -
Hi there,
I fly regularly and I discretely ask when I board if i can have an extension belt,.The airsteward then passes it to me and it is easily attached.
Its better travelling comfortably than being squashed all the journey.
You may find that you fit the belt fine depending on the airline.
Dont worry and Goodluck at your wedding.x

You wouldn't need an extender if you were a 20 - I certainly don't!
However, I would probably say it depends on which airline you are flying with - some of the seats seem closer together (maybe just an illusion) but also, it will then mean the air crew may not be as busy
I would try and be one of the first on board - that way, if you feel self conscious of having to squeeze into a seat (I am not saying that you are that big) that people will be too busy trying to find their seat/putting luggage away to look at you.
To be honest, it won't be the most comfortable of experience for you on the plane, but it will only be for a few hours - where are you going?0 -
Thank you so much for your helpful replies......it's a shame as it had been taking the shine off the build up for the hen do for me...but I'm feeling a lot better about it now....so thanks again for being friendly and helpful (although I always knew you lot would be !:D )
I'll check back in when I get back to let you know how it all goes... then if anyone else is worrying in the future it may offer a bit of reassurance !
Hen do here I come :beer:0 -
I am a size 24 and fly quite often with the budget airlines. I have found both Easyjet and Jet2 are okay, although as soon as I'm allowed I raise the armrest between me and my hubby to allow me to spill over onto his seat...lol
Thomson Cook seatbelts do not fit me but you can ask for an extender and the crew are very discreet in passing you one.;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)0 -
Don't worry about it. A general rule is over about 20 stone you might need a seat belt extender but it depends on the airline and how your weight is spread. The staff usually carry the extenders when they come around to check your belt it fastend. Have a great hen do!0
