Boyfriends 21st Birthday

Hey everyone, not sure if this is the right place? But I guess it is a celebration and I always see people mentioning parties etc..

As the title says, its my boyfriends 21st birthday next month. I've been thinking about it for months, trying to think of the perfect gift (I'm sure there isn't one anywhere!!) What I'm not sure about is whether to get him maybe one big present (not really sure how much I'm spending.. not exactly limited) or another idea was 21 smaller gifts.

Not sure why I'm even posting, as really I should know my boyfriend enough not to have to ask on a forum! But I'll give it a go anyway! if it was your 21st, would you like a main main present or 21 smaller ones (not tat, but lots of different things - personalised m&m's being one of them) from your other half? Or even one present that doesn't cost much but just something really special..

If anyones got any ideas or personal experiences, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and sorry for all the babbling!

Slack Alice, If you are after suggestions, you will need to be a bit more specific about what he like / dislikes etc...Does he have any hobbies?...

It really does depend on the individual as to preferring one big present to 21 smaller ones.

For my 21st (albeit a long time ago!!) I really appreciated the little special keepsakes that people gave me.

Whatever you choose, I'm sure he will be delighted with the thought and effort you have put into choosing the perfect gift.

I always prefer lots of smaller presents for the following reasons:
    • I enjoy opening presents. More presents means more opening.
    • Let's be honest it's rare that we get a present we truly love (or is that just me!) and the anticipation and opening part is the most fun. More presents means more excitment when presented with a load of things to open
    • The more gifts you get, the more chance of getting something he'll actually like.
I go for some clothing, some cool trousers (most guys just get jeans for themselves so something funky can go down well - you know his tastes, or already dictate them ;)!). Then I might buy a DVD, a CD (pick something from a new artist in a genre he likes), a video game (if into that kinda thing). Then get something related to a hobby or two.

I might then go for a "main pressie" which could be something a little more expensive with some "wow". But only if I can find one ;)!

And finally don't put too much pressure on it, I'm not a fan of couples who hold high expectations to each other's birthday present buying ability. Some of my friends will put on a right sulk if they don't get 100s spent on them. Geesh!

    Good luck.
  • For my 21st I was given a TON of money and alcohol, call it obvious but if you can find something quirky and fun within that I think he would enjoy it, for example i was given 21 scratch cards, and 21 different bottles of alcohol off 2 different people, i thought this was really cool! hope you find this helpful.

Hey I did the 21 gifts for mine last year. I was earning at the time so included some bigger presents too - a voucher to go zorbing and a nice tshirt

Just found my list on my computer - quite a bit of it was birthday stuff, cake, 21st candles, helium ballon, badge
Then daft stocking filler stuff like sudoku toilet roll, grow you own venus fly trap etc
House related stuff as he'd just moved - glasses and cutlery
I'd just come back off holiday so gave him my presents from there as part of the 21 gifts
Got him quite a few books he wanted, those and dvds/cds can be got quite cheaply if they're not brand new
Clothes - topman socks and boxers, or cheaper tshirts, maybe some summery clothes as its getting warmer?
Ann summers do some jokey gifts, or even some not so joke ones if you're that way inclined!
Are you going on holiday this year together? Could add in some things for that, suncream, beach towel etc?

Mine loved the 21 gifts idea, he's hard to buy for as he never wants much but a mix of nice, silly and practical gifts went down really well. I was glad though that I'd included a main present, the zorbing, as well as it meant he didn't just have piles of random stuff everywhere but would struggle to tell anyone if they asked what I got him!
Just think of your budget and maybe buy the bigger present first (gig/sports tickets are a good idea)then fit medium and small gifts around it.

Love the personalised m&ms idea btw!
