Dress Code For Open Day

A local business is having an open day for recruitment tomorrow. I was going to go along but I am unsure as to how to dress.

Smart casual or usual business dress?

Thanks.

Business Dress without a doubt - I have done an open day in the past and was shocked at how many people looked like they had just rolled out of bed. It's a tough market, people watch you even when you think they aren't (not in a scary way!)
2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)

IMHO dress as if it was an interview. First impressions etc.

Unfortunately I don't understand "smart casual". What is meant by "business dress" presumably depends on the business and your level in it.

What sort of work are you seeking? Dress as you would do for an interview for that as that is what the open day could amount to.

PS If anyone can give clear guidelines on what is smart, casual, and smart casual I would be forever grateful.

Smart - suit and tie (if you are a man), smart skirt or dress with or without jacket for women, casual is jeans and t-shirt or skirt well above the knee (such as you wear to go to the pub or out with your mates), smart casual - usually dark jeans or trousers, open-necked shirt or t-shirt no tie and maybe a jacket, no trainers - hope that helps?

Beancounter - dress as you would if you are going for an interview.

hi I don't think i agree with your idea of women's business dress: trouser suits are fine but def. wear a proper suit including jacket. Turn up in just a blouse and skirt and look like a waitress from harvester!

Depends on the business and the role. Don't go suited and booted to an open day at the civil amenity site for waste sorter role.

    That's true.

But always err on the side of too formal.

My son went to a mass interview event for barstaff at his local football club. He was the only one to turn up in shirt and tie, everyone else was casual. Guess who got the cushy job serving in the hospitality area instead of out by the stands...
