    Don't be an idiot.

We bought a second house in 2007 after paying off the first mortgage early.
My, how charming. No wonder your reputation precedes you.

So the bank saw you had a whole chunk of capital and wasn't worrying too much about loaning you a whole chunk more.

    Example fail.

The best your example does is potentially illustrate issues in the determining criteria. A winner is you!

Trying to imagine that in a Scotia accent.

Would you say, "Don't be an idiot, laddie?" <snigger>

Stick to your dram, Granddad. We all know you're doing very well thankssoverymuch.

But I just don't get why you need to rub it in people's faces...

What does income verified mean? All I had to do was get photocopies of my last 3 payslips.

One would like to think that those payslips you supplied were then verified by the bank as being genuine. Maybe they cross reference with the IR, or maybe with your employer ? Perhaps if you were paid by DD, they might have checked what was on the payslip against what was being paid into your bank account.

TBF to Hamish, I think he might be simply showing others how it's done. On the other hand, he might just be showing off.

I think it must be showing off, as he has stated many times how well the Aberdeen house market has faired through the credit crunch, and he must know that not all areas of the UK have done so well. So yes, I conclude he's trying to show off. Not a very endearing characteristic, is it ?

That's a funny post. You've basically started off in one position, and as you've typed, convinced yourself otherwise...

    Not really.

First house paid off and worth 400% of what we paid, second house mortgage now less than 1.5 times our income, and we've taken advantage of the lowest rates in history.

    Worked out very nicely indeed.
Cheers for the edit after I posted my initial responses. No worries about replying in-thread, hey?

    Thinking out loud, while typing.

    That is all.
