Hi all,
Really sorry to be having a moan, but really not sure what to do.
My husband has been told by his boss that he will no longer have a job from next friday as there is no work, he is a painter and decorator and the only employee.
Well he said he would pay him til then, but has got him painting his own house, so how can he go out and look for a job?
Well we have two small children one being nine months and the other being nearly four and at nursery. I am a stay at home mum, as it worked out better for us, do all the housework etc.
Not sure what benefits to claim and not sure when we can get down to the jobcentre plus to sort it out.
We live in private housing and we are worried that it will not be sorted out in time for xmas with the benefits.
I am a little concerned that we are being fobbed off with husbands employer as he has never had a contract, so we do not know where we stand legally, as he is on the books.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Kind regards all
Thank you in advance

How long has he been with the employer? Normally if it's more than 3 months he should have a written contract that explains the length of notice needed to terminate the contract. He may also be due some sort of severance or redundancy. Check his rights with ACAS on 08457 474747.
Would normally have to claim Job Seekers Allowance. If you're both over 18 he would expect to receive £90.10/week plus £45.58 in respect of the children. Your tax credits may also increase (although not guaranteed).
Speak to the local housing benefit office asap for advice regards Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.
For Job Seekers Allowance, you can sometimes claim online, otherwise contact your nearest Job Centre Plus (number in the telephone directory).Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.0 -
thanks hoddie,
He has been with him for 2 years, asked him to get contract but never bothered as worked for him before when he left school, and trusted him.
I kow it is not the employers fault, we know him and his wife fairly well, son's godparents. *(prob where it can get messy!)
Yeah we are over 18.
thank you again

you need to ring up the DSS or go down there and get a form to claim JSA, at least you will have some money coming in whilst your partner looks for another job. Because you rent you will be entitled to housing benefit and council tax benefit, so ring your local council and and ask them to send you the forms, do it ASAP as it takes roughly 4 weeks to receive anything, good luck
