Door step call

On returning home today a note was on the floor telling me that a representative of "ScotCall" had visited to discuss my outstanding accounts. Currently I am unemployed and whilst I know these issues need to be dealt with I am not sure how to deal with this company who I believe can be quite aggressive, they have left a name and number to call and I'm not sure wether I should ring them and what to expect if I do, can anyone please advise.

There will be someone much more qualified to deal with this, but you dont actually have to do anything.
My experience with ScotCall was bad as well, as soon as I moved back up North a Debt was moved from Westcot to them, constant calls then a particularly nasty individual called on the door several times, I answered on the second attempt and asked him to leave and not come back or I would call the police and report him for harrasment.
Havent heard from them for a few months now.
If I had discovered MSE this time last year I may not be going down the road to BR

I think it's always best to respond otherwise they may just keep turning up.
Have you spoken to any of the debt charities such as CCCS, National Debtline or the CAB? They will be able to help you sort through your finances and find the best way forward from this situation. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

To Scotcall.To doorstep collector,
Please be advised that I will only communicate with you in writing.
Furthermore, should it be your intention to arrange further “doorstep calls”, please be advised that under OFT rules, you can only visit me at my home if you make an appointment and I have no wish to make such an appointment with you.
There is only an implied license under English Common Law for people to be able to visit me on my property without express permission; the postman and people asking for directions etc (Armstrong v Sheppard & Short Ltd [1959] 2 QB 384. per Lord Evershed M.R.).
Therefore take note that I revoke license under Common Law for you, or your representatives to visit me at my property and, if you do so, you will be liable to damages for a tort of trespass and action will be taken, including but not limited to, police attendance.

Look at the back of the sun or mirror newspapers in recruitment . they advertise near on each day for door stop collectors to work on a self employed commisssion basis, id turn on the hose pipe before communicating with a half wit and would def tell them as i have done to, !!!! off. they have zero importance and authority
So ignore them and they will go away normally in there n reg banger as they are too are desperate and prob in debt - they are not offical baliffs but in the same stance are the same as the avon lady can knock but no authority to go any further
Dont talk to them.
ineedofaname do you talk to everyone , if so your bonkers . only the court baliff, cab is the ones you talk to and your mortage company and council tax , if you have a mortage and council tax if your in low level arrears, no other !!!!er is reasonable so any dialoge is a waste of breath.0 -
aand these people are total !!!!er and i use the work liberally with the stress they caused me.
it is also in the english dic
!!!!er ,!!!!er and !!!!er
Fermi' s letter is excellent but it will no doubt sit in a backlog for months , these are small operators and will sell your debt on. Def no face to face or phone conversation unless you can be assured its taped as they will dispute any arrangment made.0 -
Thats a great letter, but would it work in Scotland?
