Council Tax - Paid by Credit Card

Hi all,
I have previously been paying council tax by credit card. However, on the latest council tax statement, I noticed that if credit card is used, it states:
"Credit card payments will incur the issuers transaction fee (the appropriate percentage charge will be notified before the payment is taken)."
How will they charge this transaction fee as I already paid with credit card with the amount stated on the statement?
I have never seen this before and would be grateful for any assistance. Many thanks again.

The fee will be taken along with whatever the credit card payment is, any payments taken would be taken off the card when you made the transaction.
It's common for most councils to charge 2.5% or so on card transaction to cover the fee that the card companies charge them.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
