I dont have a clue about anything like this so was hoping someone could tell me if there is anything i could do myself-well hubby i mean-that would maybe save us the money also how much should i pay for a service as i dont want to be ripped off.

  • If the radiators are heating up at the bottom then it could just be trapped air. just get one one those key things to bleed the radiators - hold a rag underneath in case any dirty water comes out.

Search the forum, there were some recommendations a while back and some example prices.

    Cheers, Des.

I have used this firm to service my boiler and other odd jobs.

i sa on boiler juice that they recomend an oil additive to get you boiler to run up to 30% more efficient. i dont know what ot make of it my self but maybe the experts can shed some light on it.
our radiators dont warm up well as well, but then i looked at the timer and figured out that since i am only running it an hour at a time 3 times a day maybe the heat doesnt get to the top radiators that fast. looking round i noticed that the pipes are not all insulated out side so my next step is to get that foam sleeve you can put around them and see how that affect it.
i have heard about bleading the radiators but not sure what that mean and how to do it, do i need to feel my system with more water ?we just moved here and its considerably older than our previous house(at least its all ours no :)) ) so maybe the system here havent been serviced for a few years as well. Scott do you servce the banbrisge area too ?

Though much prefer making it ;)
  • Similar problem - But one radiator getting hot, one lukewarm and the next ones all cold - However the water is roasting - now getting the pump changed - £25 for a pump - Da-in-law - Free! Nice one!
  • Tradesmeninc came out to sort our boiler out, here is what they did:

    Account for heating/boiler repairs.

    Strip down boiler for service.

Interior of boiler in poor condition, probably due to lack of service.

As shown to client baffles need replaced. Burner serviced and in good condition.

T/O defective fire valve and installed new. Restored oil supply and tested boiler. Left operational.

    Investigate no heat in radiators.

Found fire valve was closed completely.

Bled all radiators to remove any trapped air.

Balanced system to ensure more even heat throughout out house.

    Heating left operational.

    Account as agreed. £150.00

PS. Main flue from boiler which is asbestos, is cracked and will need replacing.

Oil tank valve corroded and gauge needs repaired as clip missing.

Cut hedge around tank to prevent damage to gauge.

Electrics in kitchen and time clock need fixed to wall at meter cupboard.

Access to expansion tank at a future visit in roof void required to check same.

    Many Thanks

    Scott Hay

BMS, I see you are getting a new pump but it might just be that the system needs to be balanced. We had a similar problem with all th heat going to a couple of radiators and someone had suggestd a new pump ... a chap I knew had a look at it and simply balanced the system which solved the problem.
