Saving Time and Money

Hi All,
I make my DD's packed lunch every morning, but was wondering, in an effort to save time, that I should make the sandwiches the night before. Does anybody do this, and do the sandwiches taste ok??
What else do you DFW's do to save both Time and Money at the same time??

From experience, it depends what you put in the sandwiches. My daughters favourite at the mo is marmite (mix the marmite and butter in a tub, then spread it on the bread... mmmm!), so this is fine to make the night before. Anything with salad, especially lettuce and tomato, make the bread soggy and she won't eat it (neither will I for that matter!).

OH makes his and dd sandwiches just before we go to bed and they seem fine. If she is having cheese and tomato or lettuce we just do the bread and cheese at night and pop the tomatos in the morning0

Another good way of doing this to avoid soggy bread is to decide on the fillings for the week and chop and prepared into tubs. Plus if you clean and chop lettuce and keep in the fridge in a tub with ktichen roll it lasts longer. Very important for us sad singletons.

Each morning you simply need to spread and spoon. :j"Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." (Montgomery, L.M.(1908). Anne of Green Gables.)

Another thing I do is get a lift to work from a friend, saving me bus fare and I get there quicker. She does insist that she doesnt want any money for petrol, so I get her a bottle of drink at Christmas... Saves me about £100 per month..0

I usually have something other than sandwiches, such as leftovers from dinner the night before. If you put this in boxes the night before, it won't go soggy etc, and you've saved time and money (and I find it more interesting than just sarnies!!)

I make a weeks supply of sandwiches and freeze them.Plain ham , beef, turkey or cheese with pickle sandwiches freeze very well wrapped in cling film.OH just takes a packet of sandwiches out of the freezer each morning and they are thawed by lunchtime. He also takes fruit, a tomato and a biscuit or piece of cake.
I've been doing them this way for 30 years and OH hasn't complained yet.0
