Mid Devon, Exeter or Taunton Asian Supermarket

Options
After fruitlessly assaulting google, yell and yahoo with keywords like ethnic, asian, international, food, store etc. I've given up.

How does one find one's localish asian food shops? I've been advised that they ought to be cheaper for rice, herbs, spices, coconut milk etc. Ideally in Mid Devon, Taunton or Exeter.

I couldn't get parking near the 'International Food Store' on one of the main routes through Taunton, but I did get close enough to see that they seemed to offer eastern european goods rather than the asian ones I'm after.

Please, someone point me in the right direction. Or at least give me the latest PC keyword to ply google local with. Course, if you know for a fact that none in my area will beat ASDA on price, you can save me the searching.

Try looking under BT Yellow pages in U.K.

Type in the town and then try various combinations of "food retailers" "specialist food shops etc"
    "This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
    Preemie hats - 2.
  • Another idea is if most of the Indians, Bangladeshis, Bengalis, Pakistanis or Chinese tend to live in one particular area then it's likely that there will be establishments catering for the local need. So a little bit of local knowledge required but not as much as trying to get the name of a particular shop (which generally don't advertise online or outside their own communities in my experience).
There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't

In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice

hi i live in taunton, no asian shops here , i would love to know if you find any
  • Hi,

I have no idea what it's like or if their prices are cheaper than Asda, but there's a link to the Hira Ethnic Supermarket at

    http://www.touchexeter.com/business/list/bid/2799380

It's not far from the football ground in Exeter. Keywords used on google were "ethnic supermarket" exeter.

    Good luck!

echo what's already been said really, just wonder round the area where people live, cus there will be someone selling fresh stuff at half the price of supermarkets, and twice the service!

Hi there I live in Taunton and I have driven passed an oriental supermarket but I still haven't had the chance to visit it yet.

It is called something like The Twin Filipino Oriental Supermarket. Its on South street (along East Reach when you see the road between "The Foam Shop" and Papa John's Pizza) number 2

    Hope this helps
  • If anyone is still looking, there is a shop selling asian foods on Sidwell Street in Exeter.
I was a twin mum +2 but have been a twin mum +3 for a few years now. :)
