NHS Job Advert

Hi
I am being made redundant in a few months and have decided to use it as a chance to change career. What I want to change to isn't a million miles from what I do now and I do have a small amount of relevant experience but do need to start with a entry level position to get fully trained up.
I found the perfect job to do this in the NHS so got my application in 4 days before the closing date which was yesterday. The original advert stated that that the closing date will be extended if there were "insufficient applicants" and that "previous applicants need not apply".
I have just looked at the nhs website and the job has been readvertised with the closing date being extended until tomorrow.
Should I take this as meaning my application is unsuccessful?

No I think it just means there havent been many applicants and their hoping for more. You could always ring their HR dept. Good luck0

No, I don't think so.
If they'd stopped taking applications at the closing date, interviewed a load of people but not appointed anyone, and then issued an advert a couple of months later - I think you'd be right to be pessimistic.
As it stands, it sounds as though they haven't had as many (appropriate) applicants as they want - which could work in your favour.0 -
Extension of the closing date (or what appears to be a re-advert) on NHS jobs is often to do with the fact that the jobs are sometimes advertised in other places such as journals which may be published weekly or monthly. So to give equity to the applicants the normal two week date on NHS jobs is extended.
Although often there are so many applications that the closing date is brought forward. It is a shame that so many that apply either fail to meet the minimum criteria or are quite clearly overqualified, a sign of the times I suppose. Not referring to you of course, just general musing.
Good luck.0 -
i know it won't be what you want to hear - but jobs in the NHS aren't as secure as they once were...
also they can spetimes take an absolute age to get through shortlisting.... (it has to be done by the manager and then personnell, and they have to agree, leanr how to say all the candidates names in swhaeeli, and then write them in chinese characters.... then they have to take a 2 week holiday beofre sending any letters out)...
Good luck.

Thank you for all your reply's it has cheered me up no end as I really want the job.
In reply to nimbo the job is a 12 month contract and it is just a foot in the door and the vital experience I need to get into a new career but as catnap53 mentioned I am in the 'over qualified' category as the job will mean a massive pay cut for me which is why I am worried that I won't get shortlised.1 -
If you tick the boxes for "essential" and explain in the narrative why you want the job / are suitable - then they have to short list you. If they don't then you can ask why.
Occasionally I have shortlisted for the NHS and there are just too many people to possibly interview so we have to start looking at the "desirable" to reduce the numbers.
Sounds to me as though they don't have too many applicants at the moment.0 -
Hello
This job I applied for has been advertised yet again with a closing date of one day???????
I haven't heard anything from them and there is another week untill the "if you haven't heard from us by this date assume your application has been unsuccessful"
I am very tempted to phone them up to see if my application is proceeding or not, I really want this job and fill the essential criteria for it. Do you think I should call them?0 -
Just call, saying that the deadline as been extended and you'd like to know what is happening regarding your application.0
-
Thanks for the advice.
I was getting myself all nervous and worked up about phoning that I was worried I would end up rambling:o.
I decided to email instead, I shall let you know if I hear anything0
