Shortfall Extra Insurance - Welcome Car Finance

I'm new to MSE and was just after some advice, I've had a car on finance from Welcome since 2008 which from day 1 to be honest i've not been very happy with.
When I signed for my car I was told that getting Shortfall Extra Insurance and mechanical breakdown which only looked like it only last for only the first 24 months when actually the car is over 48 months is a very good thing to take out, as you do you take these things out and not really ask too much questions, but to what i've been gathering over the past few weeks these are actually insurances which may have been mis-sold, is this correct?
Also after working out how much I have paid Welcome which came around the £6500, i'm amazed to get a statement from them to say that I still owe nearly £5500.....
What can I do to help myself as this is really getting me down?

hi ya yea i have the same problem i tried to reclaim ppi but i got told i was not sold any but was sold 'shortfall extra insurance' and that i can claim that back
but i dont know what it is or how much i will get back0
